Summary
This advanced practice professional with the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology will be responsible for supporting the Pediatric Pancreas Program and Pediatric Advanced and Interventional Endoscopy Program. This individual will see new and return patients with acute, acute recurrent, and chronic pancreatitis, pancreas insufficiency, as well as patients with GI disorders requiring advanced and interventional endoscopy including the polyposis syndromes. Chronic pain management would be a component of the position, working alongside a multidisciplinary team. This APP will order imaging and determine need for advanced procedures. This individual will perform independent visits for screening and follow-up of patients for advanced endoscopy, as well as assist with processes surrounding the procedure (i.e. prescribing medications, triaging questions, and consenting).

Responsibilities*
Providing independent visit for pancreatitis, pancreatic insufficiency, polyposis syndromes, and pre-op/status-post advanced endoscopy.
Providing medical care for other GI related concerns (i.e. constipation or reflux) to this population.
Ordering imaging and determining need for advanced procedures.
Supporting those with chronic pain, in a multidisciplinary team.
Coordinating advanced endoscopic procedures with the program scheduler (case requests, prescribing medications, triage questions, arrange ADPs).
Coordinate itineraries with program coordinator for patients requiring local overnight stays and multiple other specialty visits or testing.
Completing consents, histories, and physical examinations prior to endoscopy.
Telephone and in-basket messages, as well as timely documentation of all patient care encounters.
Participating in divisional education/meetings, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
Collaborating and serving as a resource for staff regarding this special population.
Demonstrating flexibility to meet demands of patients and families, as well as the division and department.
Providing excellent customer service.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.

Required Qualifications*
NP:
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
Current specialty certification to practice as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan
Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
Current DEA registration required
AHA approved BLS
Three of more years of clinical experience with the pediatric population
PA
Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or one of its predecessor agencies.
Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
Current DEA registration required
AHA approved BLS
Three of more years of clinical experience with the pediatric population
NOTE:
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Desired Qualifications*
Two or more years of experience as an APP in pediatrics.
Two or more years of direct patient care experience in the pediatric gastroenterology specialty.
Ambulatory care experience
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork in an interprofessional team.
Demonstrated commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities
Demonstrates high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge.
Excellent time management skills and an ability to prioritize assignments
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
Work Schedule
Hours: 40 per week
Shifts: 8-10 hour shifts
Days: Monday-Friday (potential for adjustments as necessary)
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
