Job Description

  • Business Acumen: Responsible for overall financial impact of Engineering activities on the business as a whole. Understand, appreciate and communicate to others how product design decisions can and will impact the business financially.

  • Engineering Processes: Understand the engineering and business processes and systems. ECO, ECN, BOM, Creation and organization of 2D Dwgs and 3D models, Shop Work Ordders/Jobs, Item Master, etc. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations. Owns the implementation of engineering processes to ensure efficiency and completeness of engineering and manufacturing information. Support and influence strategic direction regarding the engineering processes involved with developing new products and systems as well as maintaining existing products.

  • Project Management: Manage a team of engineers that are executing numerous projects concurrently. Meet aggressive schedules and demands for implementation of multiple concurrent projects on time.

  • Team Interaction: Technical and managerial leadership of engineering projects throughout the business. Identify and assign the proper resource(s) to solve technical problems and develop new products. Delegate and manage among engineering team members to ensure completion of engineering projects.

  • External Customer Interaction: Will occasionally interface with customers to understand their needs and how our products can better meet their needs. Will also interact with the customer regarding product quality and or reliability issues.

  • Internal Technical Communication: Communicate to the commercial and operations side of the business solutions to technical problems on existing products as well as the successful introduction of new products. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of various design solutions.

  • Technical Judgment (Problem Solving): Expert in identifying understanding and explaining technical problems and the best reasonable solution(s). Identify the best resource within the engineering team to address specific technical problems.

  • Developing Others: Mentoring continuously and identifying capability gaps which represent opportunity for future development

  • Align the engineering team with key strategies from the Long Range Plan, LRP and Annual Operating Plan, AOP in partnership with the other leaders of the business.

  • Facilitate, implement and manage the assigned engineering processes.

  • Demonstrate and develop a collaborative cross-functional approach to drive engineering projects in a dynamic setting with a steady flow of new product development projects.

  • Track and manage key engineering and project metrics. Report progress on all priority projects via a balanced scorecard on a monthly basis. (NPD, VAVE and Sustaining Maintenance Projects)

  • Manage and prioritize goals with other leaders of the business in a manner to ensure optimal deployment of resources to achieve targeted goals.

  • Balance demand from multiple internal and external customers across multiple organizations. (Panasonic, Hussmann, CRD, CIG)

Required Experience

  • BS or MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required

  • 10+ years’ experience of demonstrated and proven technical and business leadership in a previous position.

  • Also needs an understanding of Manufacturing and Quality processes to guide designs for manufacturability and inspection considerations and support modern manufacturing techniques

  • This individual will be culturally sensitive and have a strong influencing ability combined with an analytical and commercially pragmatic approach.
